Oct 5, 2007- Working on an airplane again!

Got a call from Gene Day who used to be my mechanic on the Aztec. He asked if I could help him with a restoration project he was working on. It is a Navy Aircraft N3N “Canary”; a WWII biplane trainer similar to the Stearman but built by the Naval Aircraft Factory in the early part of the war. It is all metal- unlike the Stearman. It is taken down to the frame right now,


and there is a lot of work to be done, about 3 years worth.

I stripped 60 some years worth of paint from this part yesterday and will give him one day a week of labor.

Gene is one of those aviation history stories that I gotta tell you about– I’ll get that together and post it in the near future. This is what it should look like when finished:
